Hon. (MRS) Gifty Ohene-Konadu

Hon. Gifty Ohene-Konadu was born on 23rd November, 1957 at Juaso in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region. She is a Seventh Day Adventist and worship at the Legon Church. Currently, she is the National Coordinator of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s flagship Policy, One District One Factory.

She was a two-term Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South Constituency. At Parliament, she served on the Parliamentary Service Board, Appointments Committee, Committee on Trade and Industry, Vice Chair Women Caucus in Parliament and other key committees. She also served as a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in charge of Small and Medium Enterprises during H.E John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration.

She holds a Master Degree in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies in Netherlands, The Hague where she researched into women in Local Government. She developed her thesis further and had it published in the Journal of African Feminist Thinkers. She again holds a Master Degree in Gender, Peace and Security from the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Centre.

She also holds a Bachelor Degree in Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon having already attained a Diploma in Home Economics from the same University.

She has attended seminars and conferences at home and abroad on Women’s Empowerment and Management of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises.

She gathered her experience from theory through schooling as well as practice at National Council for Women and Development (NCWD) where she was a Principal Project Officer for Eighteen years (18years) and at the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs as Director of Projects for two years.

She also worked at the then Ministry of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD as Director of Finance and Administration and at the Office of the Head of Civil Service as Assistant Director Human Resource Department.

She has international working experience with the International Union of Local Authorities and International Organization for Migration. She has been a beneficiary of numerous academic scholarships like Rockefeller Foundation, British Council, JICA, Netherlands and a host of others.

She has nurtured and sought funding for many women groups nationwide to pursue income generating projects across the country.

She has a number of Publications on Citizen’s Participation in Local government as an Empowering tool. Gifty’s Lifelong passion is to empower men and women to take their rightful positions in the society.

In the quest to ensure effective and efficient delivery of public services and to cut down the number of Ministers, H.E the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has restructured the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation into a new Secretariat purposely to ensure timely and efficient delivery of the President’s flagship initiatives and legacy projects. The defunct Ministry for Monitoring and Evaluation is now Monitoring and Evaluation Secretariat established under the Office of the President.

Hon. Gifty was the former Coordinator for the President’s flagship industrialization agenda, One District One Factory during the first term of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
